"Memoir of William Young," c. 1880.

This collection is a negative microfilm of a memorial to William Young (1755-1829), Philadelphia printer, publisher, and stationer, written by his great grandson, William Young MacAllister ( - ), c. 1880. The original is in the possession of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. The biographical information was gleaned from various relatives and friends of William Young, as well as from his letters and papers. The memorial covers the development of Young's business in Philadelphia, the founding of his paper manufacturing and bookselling business in Rockland, Delaware, where he eventually made his home, as well as his establishment of the Whitehall Press in Whitehall, Pa. There is also a typescript of Young's last will, 1829.
